Have a look at the start-up scripts found under /usr/share/rear/skel/default/etc/scripts to see whether something cannot work on your platform?

Hi,
I add +x to all files in /usr/share/rear/skel/default/etc/scripts and the error was clean.
But I still can't login.

@schabrolles Do you have any idea what happens here?

viper1986 commented at 2017-03-21 09:31:

Why default console is used hvc0 instead of tty0?

schabrolles commented at 2017-03-21 09:41:

@viper1986 : What is your environment PowerVM / PowerKVM / BareMetal ?
I usually not have any issue with Power+SLES11, but I will try to replicate your setup.
Are you using rear 2.00 directly from git ?

hvc0 is the default console on POWER. it allows to connect remote console to HMC.

viper1986 commented at 2017-03-21 10:40:

I use PowerVM and REAR 2.00 from git.

jsmeix commented at 2017-03-21 10:48:

@viper1986
I did not yet read all the details above therefore
only a side note FYI regarding "default console":
and how to specify the right one as needed:

See the perhaps related USE_SERIAL_CONSOLE setting
and the scripts which use that and do some
"automagic things", cf.
https://github.com/rear/rear/issues/937

In particular when there is no serial port one may have to
explicitly specify the right USE_SERIAL_CONSOLE value
(perhaps even together with KERNEL_CMDLINE)
to get things right, cf.
https://github.com/rear/rear/issues/1199
and see in particular
https://github.com/rear/rear/issues/937#issuecomment-236144933

viper1986 commented at 2017-03-23 07:31:

I try to change console but booting hung in this state:
cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
done.
device-mapper: uevent: version 1.0.3
device-mapper: ioctl: 4.25.0-ioctl (2012-07-25) initialised: dm-devel@redhat.com

Have you got some new information?

gdha commented at 2017-03-30 08:11:

@viper1986 Any progress made?
@schabrolles Did you succeed with your test setup to simulate the issue?

schabrolles commented at 2017-03-30 09:02:

@viper1986 Sorry for the long delay, I was in vacation (I'm still in vacation, but find some time to test something close to your setup).

Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce your issue.
When booting to the RESCUE image, I can login to the console (hvc0).

Host sles11sap-144 using Backup NETFS and Output PXE

Welcome to SLES for SAP Applications  11.4 (ppc64) - Kernel 3.0.101-63-ppc64 (hvc0).

sles11sap-144 login: root

Welcome to Relax-and-Recover. Run "rear recover" to restore your system !

RESCUE sles11sap-144:~ #

My setup is a bit different :

System : Power8 machine with PowerVM virtialization
VM : LPAR with SLES11 for SAP

My ReaR configuration is the following:
I use PXE server instead of ISO images ... (easier for me to test). I'm not sure it can make a difference.
@jsmeix @gdha could you confirm ?

AUTOEXCLUDE_MULTIPATH=n
BOOT_OVER_SAN=y

### write the rescue initramfs to PXE server
OUTPUT=PXE
### create a backup using the internal NETFS method, using 'tar'
BACKUP=NETFS

### write both rescue image and backup to the device labeled REAR-000
BACKUP_URL="nfs://10.7.19.177/rear"

Your issue is may be related to the additional option you use :(BACKUP=NSR, CFGHTML ...)
More tests are needed ...
