the actual error in your rear.log is
++ chroot /tmp/rear.uSzyGb945H7DRfQ/rootfs /bin/ldd /bin/bash
/usr/bin/ldd: fork: Cannot allocate memory
so it seems you are out of memory.
But I cannot guess why.
